After Layrd took over one employee's medical-records and fax-triage job at Northern Medical Group, she got a raise, a new title, and lab technician status.

In 20 weeks at QualCare, Layrd triaged 15,600+ faxes and prepared 7,400+ patient visits. Dr. Hotchandani said one employee's entire medical-records and fax-triage job was "gone entirely." The person stayed. The work changed.

Northern Medical Group is a physician-led medical group in New York's Hudson Valley. This story comes from QualCare, the NMG division where Layrd is live: the people in its rooms, the work in its queues, and the ordinary pressure of a practice trying to keep up with work that arrived every day.

Dr. Hotchandani, in a recorded customer call, describing what changed inside the practice.

The story he wanted to tell

Dr. Neeraj Hotchandani brought it up on a customer call because it had just happened inside the practice. He was not making a staffing theory. He was talking about one employee.

"I have a story for you guys in case you wanted to use it out of your marketing thing, but it's actually a nice story because of your product."

Dr. Neeraj Hotchandani · Northern Medical Group

Then he explained what had changed at QualCare, the NMG division where Layrd is live.

At QualCare, one staff member had a job that was mostly medical records and fax triage. It was real work, necessary work, work the practice could not ignore. Every day, documents arrived. Every day, somebody had to open them, read them, identify the patient, file them, route them, and make sure the important ones did not sit unseen.

"I had a person whose entire job was medical records and fax triage. That job is gone entirely."

That sentence can sound cold if you stop there. It was not cold in the way he told it. The person did not disappear from the practice. What changed was the job around her.

What Layrd took off the desk

Over 20 weeks, a little under five months, Layrd triaged more than 15,600 faxes for QualCare. Those documents did not become another queue for somebody else to clean up. Layrd read them, matched them to the right patient, filed them in the chart, and routed the ones that needed human attention.

During the same period, Layrd prepared more than 7,400 patient visits. Before the physician opened the room, the chart had already been reviewed, the recent record had been pulled forward, and the visit had a prepared note inside the EMR.

None of that is abstract. It is the kind of work that quietly consumes a practice. It comes in piece by piece, so it rarely gets counted as one large problem. It still has to be staffed. It still follows people home when the charts are not done.

Where the person went instead

QualCare had another need inside the practice: the lab. The staff member who had been spending her time in records and fax triage was interested in learning that side of the work. Once Layrd took over the queue, she finally had the space to train there in a sustained way.

"We had a staff shortage in our path lab. And she had an interest in learning."

Dr. Neeraj Hotchandani · Northern Medical Group

Over the months that followed, she moved fully into the lab. What had been divided time became dedicated time. She trained. She got better at the work. Then the role changed around her.

"Within the last four months, she sprinted herself to a raise, a new title and, like, a lab technician status. And that's entirely because of your AI."

Dr. Neeraj Hotchandani · Northern Medical Group

The practice did not lose a person to automation. The employee stayed, got paid more, earned a new title, and reached lab technician status.

"Her job is better. Our lives are better. My FTEs are down. We made money. We promoted her and we saved money. We promoted her because of your AI."

The savings were real, but they did not come from treating people as waste. They came from removing the work that kept a good person from doing something more valuable.

The operating change underneath the human one

Practices usually talk about labor in the language of scarcity: not enough people, too much inbox, too many charts, another role they cannot hire for. At QualCare, Layrd changed what the practice had to staff. There was less repetitive work to assign, less pressure on the medical-records function, and more room to use the people it already had well.

Dr. Hotchandani described it plainly. The practice saved money. A staff member was promoted. The lab got help. The physicians and staff had fewer unfinished tasks pushing back into their day.

"We promoted her because of your AI."

This one has numbers: 15,600+ faxes triaged, 7,400+ visits prepared, 20 weeks live. It also has a person who ended up with a better job than the one she had before.

Layrd took over the records and fax-triage queue. QualCare saved money, and the employee got a raise. Let's see what Layrd can take over.

Counts come from Layrd production logs and cover the first 20 weeks of the NMG deployment at QualCare. The staff story and quotes come from a recorded customer call with Dr. Hotchandani, lightly edited for clarity.
